Awareness and Advocacy

FICAT seeks to strengthen the social and democratic rights of our society and the empowerment of people affected by discriminatory and harmful policies by participating in actions defending violated human rights with the active involvement of migrants and refugees.

The central focus of the advocacy and awareness-raising effort is a project we named Sinopsis, which consists of a series of activities and campaigns that seek to promote respect for the fundamental and emerging human rights of migrants and refugees in Barcelona.

Through Sinopsis, we organize the MER Film Series - Migration, Exile, and Refuge, speeches at the Autonomous University of Barcelona by migrants and refugees participating in our organization, and the Antiracist Poster Contest, a competition that seeks to reach a different audience than FICAT's usual audience while also contributing to the world of antiracist art. Also through the Synopsis Project, our head of advocacy assumes the coordination of the Network of Social Entities for Advice on Foreign Law (XESAJE), a space made up of third-sector entities that provide professional legal advice to migrants and refugees in the city of Barcelona.

We firmly believe that raising public awareness is a key tool for building a more just, inclusive, and equitable society, capable of recognizing and valuing diversity as an enrichment rather than a threat, promoting coexistence and fostering a culture of respect for diversity that shapes the city's social set.
